“Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit.”

E. E. Cummings

Learn. Share. Grow

Of Indian and Chinese descent, Mei-Lyn is a true Third Culture Adult with a passion for learning about diverse cultures. She was born in Canada, grew up in Toronto and holds a British passport. Her first teaching experience was in Madagascar while working in a leper colony as a microbiologist, Mei-Lyn opened a school to teach English to doctors. Medical outreach and education with Pfizer Canada launched her second career. While she was ready to"go out to the Congo to fight Ebola", her high school classmate, now husband, asked her to marry her, getting her to reflect that perhaps "life isn't just about me..."

With that, she entered the world of international education and fell in love. Pedagogical teaching through inquiry ignited a passion for further learning and led to the completion of her Masters in International Education.

Lifelong learning has since become a part of who she is and three big ideas motivate her to continue to learn, share, inspire and grow with others:

1. Schools are habitats for creativity and wonder.

2. ALL learners can explore, understand and grow.

3. Communities are for people to belong, share, and build transformational relationships based on trust.

Making a difference in teaching and learning is how she contributes to the world. Mei-Lyn cultivates wellness through family, mindfulness, nature, and exercise.

"Be as radiant as the sun,

as healing as the rain,

as generous as a tree"

Michael Franti

"Start children off on the way they should go,

and even when they are old they will not turn from it"

Proverbs 22:6

Travel. Play. Explore.

Born in Canada and living overseas for more than 10 years, they are third culture kids, ready for adventure!

They love to try new flavours of food, explore a new city, and have fun playing in an airport. Ages 14, 11, & 8 they bring their talents, gifts and laughter together with a love of travel, building lego, playing games, or going to the movies.

Spending most of their lives outside of Canada, their experiences have given them an appreciation of different cultures and perspectives, a global view of situations, a curiosity to discover, and a strong desire to enjoy the present moment.

These kids are what have made the Freeman Five what they are today. A family enthusiastic about travel, culture, and giving back to the world in magical ways.
